Comentario a "Los pichiciegos" de Fogwill
Pienso que para comentar una novela como Los Pichiciegos es preciso la velocidad, reproducir el ritmo del autor, escrita en tres días… Reproducir tal vez las circunstancias, la coca como estimulante, colocarse en el carril del frenesí, dejarse llevar por la inspiración avasallante, colocarla en el carril de una respiración alerta y sostenida. Debo confesar una estupidez cometida, no sé si “cometida”, me vino de arriba y no me la podía sacar de encima, nada de mi voluntad la impulsaba o le daba aliento. En el mientras tanto de la lectura me decía en forma entrecortada, entre fragmento y fragmento “no me interesa esto, ¿que se hable de una guerra real en Malvinas desde aquí, Buenos Aires, en una pura ficción, un tipo que nunca estuvo en una guerra, que acaso ni hizo el servicio militar? La novela no está mal pero a mí no logra interesarme -¿me mentía?-”. La objeción no me la pude arrancar durante toda la lectura y no obstante sabía desde el principio que era una soberana estupidez. Porque ¿cómo no me había ocurrido con las tantas otras novelas o películas sobre la guerra que sin duda habían sido realizadas por personas que no la habían vivido? Tal vez hubiera algunos motivos, el caso de una guerra que me era cercana, o bien la avidez de saber la verdad de “esta guerra”, por lo cercana también en el tiempo, recién comenzada y aún no terminada cuando se la escribía (y en tres días…). En fin yo no quería una novela sino una crónica me pregunto si la velocidad hace al contenido, si la forma hace al contenido- pero poco a poco se comenzó a imponer con su presencia y decir aquí estoy yo y los hechos y los personajes cobraron vida propia y se impusieron como más reales que la realidad. Y entonces hablemos de la novela en su realidad más propia.
Los pichis son animalitos que no ven y viven en cuevas que ellos mismos cavan. Los pichiciegos son soldados desertores que viven en una cueva subterránea que ellos mismo construyeron y llaman la pichicera, allá en Malvinas. Tienen una organización bien estratificada con reglas bien definidas, un organigrama que dibuja las jerarquías y los roles: los Reyes en la cima, un alguien que debe ocuparse de la despensa, los “útiles” a los cuales se les asignan tareas, casi siempre salir en patrulla a conseguir víveres y otros utensilios, y finalmente los “inservibles” o “dormidos” que se quedan tirados sin hacer nada y por ello se hallan en grave peligro de extinción, en cualquier momento se los pueden tirar a los ingleses.
Ellos se vinculan por la organización misma fundada en una economía y ética de guerra. Pero no se trata de la guerra oficial contra un enemigo sino de la propia guerra cuyo único objetivo es sobrevivir. La ética, muy peculiar puede comprender acciones otrora inadmisibles: negociar con el enemigo (atenuado por el hecho de que se ha trastocado también la noción de enemigo), trucar información por víveres, rapiñar cadáveres, matar al abusador. El héroe, que no tiene que ser visto como antihéroe, porque no se ubica en uno de dos polos de una lógica binaria sino en el seno de una lógica cerrada signada por un horizonte de perspectivas sumamente estrecho, es el fuerte, que no se define por su ardor patriótico, su valentía, su sentido del deber, su consistencia ideológica sino por su aptitud de sobrevivencia; desde un punto de visa darwiniano es el más apto a la adaptación. En ese contexto la guerra es una cuestión de método a seguir en sus mínimos detalles sin desviarse un milímetro de sus reglas de hierro, un método autogestionado, de propio diseño por obra de los Reyes, los primeros. Un método que requiere de una comunidad, no es posible el hombre en soledad, para la sobrevivencia es indispensable el otro, la acción complementaria, la colaboración. El hombre ese ser social.
Pero la guerra es también un lugar de conocimiento, de ampliación de los saberes, de formación. Qué se aprende? Se aprende el hambre, el frío, el miedo, se aprende sobre los procesos de deshumanización, las debilidades, los extremos de la crueldad y de la denigración a que se puede llegar en situaciones límites, se aprende el bajo fondo de la miseria humana y este cúmulo de saberes actúa como el líquido mágico que vuelve invulnerable, el que aprende se salva, se vuelve invulnerable, nadie los podrá joder a los que vuelven.
No obstante, esta sabiduría es una sabiduría muda, se ha vivido una experiencia tan extrema que no se puede trasmitir, tan fuerte es que se vuelve incomunicable. El que llega de la guerra es un ser de excepción, mudo, tal vez, sordo, rozando la locura, perdido en el tiempo, sin futuro y con un pasado inerranable.
Y sin embargo esto es algo común a todas las guerras. ¿Qué hace de la guerra pichi una guerra distinta a todas las guerras? Que en ella no hay un camino que avance desde los ideales hacia la decepción, el descorazonamiento, la degradación de los valores. No hay evolución como en Los jóvenes leones, sino ya todo eso ocurrió, todo comienza en este presente sin pasado en que unos jóvenes soldados desde siempre desertores viven en una vida oculta y subterránea con un solo objetivo: sobrevivir hasta el fin de la guerra. ¿Qué desean? Simples banalidades de la vida inmediata: calor, cama y ropa limpia, culear, ver a los viejos, un asadito, esas cosas sencillas de lo cotidiano. No hay nada trascendente a esta pequeñas cosas que ahora son el todo, lo máximo que se puede pedir, todo se da en este orden de inmanencia al que lo reduce esta situación de extrema penuria. Mirado desde este presente de absoluta penuria ese es el único futuro deseable el de un mínimo confort.
Dijo Fogwill que no quiso demostrar nada, que no es un escrito pacifista. No le creemos. Obviando la diferencia entre demostrar y mostrar afirmamos que la novela está plena de mostración que el tema de la guerra no es nunca neutro, siempre será belicista o pacifista y en este caso sobra especificar.
